Total reported = the filer’s dollar value, as reported, for shares (not options) of the 12 bitcoin ETFs (IBIT, FBTC, GBTC and the Grayscale Mini Trust, BITB, ARKB, HODL, BRRR, BTCO, the Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust, BTCW and the Franklin fund) and the common stock of Strategy, Coinbase, MARA and Riot.1 Type is my reading of the filer’s name, not something the filing states, and the list covers only filers identified by name from the data set, so other public funds may exist under less obvious names. Where a filer also made an amendment the original is used. A 13F filer reports positions it has investment discretion over, which can sit in index funds or external managers’ mandates, so a holding is not necessarily a decision about bitcoin; only managers with $100 million or more in 13(f) securities file.2 Observed facts, not a forecast.

Pension plans and government-owned investors are often cited as signs of institutional adoption of bitcoin. The filings show what they hold in these listed products, not their intentions. For the whole market, see the institutions with the most bitcoin ETF and bitcoin-stock holdings, and for governments’ own bitcoin, the largest US government bitcoin seizures.
